Conference Report – ERHFA-meeting 29 and 30 October 2020

On Thursday 29 and Friday 30 October 2020 the European Rural History Film Association (ERHFA) held an international online workshop. Because of recent developments in the pandemic, the workshop was turned into an online workshop by the hosting Institute of Rural History from Sankt Pölten. It proved to be a successful platform to bring together people with different kinds of interests and backgrounds to discuss and think about the issue of rural film production in Europe and beyond. Call for Papers

Films are important for historians of the 20th century. Since online-platforms provide access to an increasing number of films, rural historians rely on them in similar ways as they have done so far on photographs and written or oral sources. But the question remains whether films are “only” a source for historians or also an appropriate means of communication for historical insights and narratives.
